Epson RED Secure Printing
A printer-level setting that enables secure printing for Epson wireless printers using the EPSON SDK.
Users can toggle this setting on or off as needed (not recommended but possible with the current firmware).

Context
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) requires secure communication protocols for all network devices (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.) imported to the EU after 1 August, 2025.
To comply with this directive, our platform now supports the secure printing protocol for new devices imported and sold in the EU using the new feature and workflow below. In short:
New option: Activate secure printing in the Back Office
- New setting (in app v25.44) at the printer level to enable/disable secure printing for the Epson TM-m30 RED.
- If enabled, the POS uses the Epson SDK and the secure printing protocol.
- This allows newly imported printers to work.
- Supporting resources:
— See Workflow section below
Previous option: Deactivate secure printing on the printer
- Deactivation is possible, but Epson could disable this functionality at some point in the future.
- Supporting resources:
— Disabling Secure Print on Epson RED Printers
— EPSON Radio Equipment Directive RED
— Connect printer with a dongle
Before:
Many printers stopped working with RED enabled due to incompatible drivers in the Back Office. To fix this, had to disable RED to make the printer work again.
After: If you use the standard driver and enable this option, the printer will work but will be slower. You no longer need to complete all the steps on the Epson side to unblock printing. If it’s a RED printer, simply enable the secure printing flag in the Back Office.
When Secure Printing is enabled, prints take 2-5 seconds instead of 0.1 seconds:
- This is due to new cybersecurity provisions that protect customer data and secure radio communication between devices.
- Applies to all RED-compliant printers, not just ours.
- This is not a bug, it’s a result of the additional security layer.
Secure printing protects sensitive data:
- Without encryption, anyone on the network can easily record print jobs. Many customers print names on receipts, making it simple to track who visited a hotel or restaurant.
- If this data is leaked, the business owner could face serious consequences.
- Even with the 2-second delay, secure printing is worth keeping enabled for data protection.
🆕 Workflow
To Activate secure printing in the Back Office:
- Setting at the printer level for users to enable/disable secure printing
1️⃣ From the Back Office
> Hardware
> Printer

3️⃣ Check the box for Enable secure printing
- This must be checked for each printer individually.

ℹ️ Note: There is no way to identify the hardware as RED-compliant or not. Affected RED printers will have an extra info flyer inside the cardboard box (so you can only tell after unpacking). All printers that run on RED-enabled firmware will come with this extra flyer that tells the user about RED and that this printer is affected.
