Print by Floor Plan

How to link production center printing to floor plans in order to eliminate configuration switching for servers

Illustrated image

Situation

Production dockets for an item need to go to multiple production centers (printers), depending on where it was ordered (floor plan). Prerequisite: 2 floor plans minimum.

Solution

Use the @ symbol and a floor plan to redirect a production center. Link production centers by floor plans (instead of via device or POS configuration) in order to save time and enhance usability:

DEVICE: Not recommended due to limited device mobility between floors, as device configuration overrides POS configuration, preventing flexible device sharing during rushes.
POS CONFIGURATION: Servers must switch device configurations between orders when serving different floor plans (for example upstairs vs. downstairs).
FLOOR PLAN: Automatically routes items to production centers by floor plan, eliminating device and POS configurations and manual steps for servers.

Example

Goal

When items from the accounting group alcoholic beverages are added to a table in the terrace floor plan, the orders must be sent to the terrace bar.

Context

— Alcoholic beverages (accounting group)
— Pub bar (production center)
— Terrace bar (production center)
— Terrace (floor plan)

Steps

1. Create a printer profile linked to the main production center

2. Create a printer profile according to a floor plan with a redirected production center

Steps

1

— Go to Configuration > Printing > Printing profiles > Add profile > Name (PP-Pub-Bar) > Save

— Go to Configuration > Printing > Production centers > Add production center > Name (Pub-Bar) > Printing profile > Save

2

Repeat the above step for the redirected printing profile (in this case, PP-Terrace):

— Go to Configuration > Printing > Printing profiles > Add profile > Name (PP-Terrace) > Save

For the redirected production center, enter the main production center name, then @ and the
floor plan name, keeping the format as MainProductionCenterName@FloorPlanName (in this case, Pub-Bar@Terrace):

— Go to Configuration > Printing > Production centers > Add production center > Name (Pub-
Bar@Terrace)
> Printing profile > Save

Results

All terrace drink orders print at the terrace bar:

If an item from the accounting group alcoholic
beverages is added to a table on the terrace
floor plan, the order is sent to PP-Terrace (step
2). Otherwise, the order is sent to PP-Pub-Bar
(step 1).

Find Pub-Bar and newly created Pub-
Bar@Terrace
as primary and secondary
production center options when editing the
alcoholic beverages accounting group.

Caution

Keep in mind that:

Use exact names for the main production center and floor plan (no abbreviations). In this example: Pub-Bar (MainProductionCenterName) and Terrace (FloorPlanName).

Even if a redirected production center (MainProductionCenterName@FloorPlanName) is disabled in configuration, printing still redirects by floor plan.

If filtering only by floor plans, ensure a main printing profile exists for the production center. So redirects (@FloorPlanNames) alone won’t work without it.
